Blackjack MathThe mathematics of blackjack play a very important role in determining the outcome of a hand. There are three factors that influence whether you win or lose. Your two cards and the dealer's up card are the key ingredients to blackjack probabilities. And there are 550 possible outcomes governed by a set of 30 different rules. Is it really necessary for the average player to study and learn all of the intrinsic values of blackjack probabilities? Do you really need to know that the probability of a dealer getting a blackjack is a mere 4.82%? Or that the probability of busting when taking a hit on a hand totalling a hard 14, 15, and 16 is more than 50%? And what about the standard deviation factor? Here's the good news and bad news story! The bad news is that the knowledge of math, probabilities, and odds is extremely important in order for you to be a consistent winner. The good news is all the work has been done for you. All you really have to do is learn the basic strategy for the amount of decks used at your table. All of the math and probabilities are contained in a basic strategy. The basic strategy most used today is the basic strategy for four or more decks. Math & Card Counting - What They Don't Tell YouEveryone knows the romantic stories of how MIT teams ravaged the casinos in Las Vegas for millions of dollars. However, few of us ever read about what type of ridgid and grueling training was involved with bringing these teams to razor sharp effectiveness in order to win that kind of money. Card counting is primarily used in money management. When the count is high you bet larger amounts of money and when the count is negative you reduce your wagers to the table minimums if possible. The counts can also be used in deviating from basic strategy now and then when warranted. But the primary function of card counting is to take advantage of situations when the favor the player. But there are consequences involved in card counting. The casinos do not like to lose. So when they determine someone is using card counting methods (which is perfectly legal) they will retaliate. And if you are unlucky to be branded as a card counter all the casinos will know your name and have your pictures on file. At that point you might as well take up checkers because your blackjack days are over. So let's look at some of the reasons not to use a card counting strategy: 1. It takes a lot of time, training, and expertise. 2. One mistake could be very costly. 3. You are always fearful of being discovered. 4. You are constantly required to make decisions. 5. Card counting is not structured. It is a constantly changing event. 6. DON'T FORGET, THE HIGH POSITIVE COUNTS CAN HELP THE CASINO AS WELL AS THE PLAYER! The average player is better off using a structured blackjack betting system.
