Stimulus Tax Rebate
The Economic Growth Act of 2008.
|
No Tax Return, No Rebate
That's the bottom line, if you want to get a tax rebate courtesy of The Economic Growth Act of 2008, enacted Feb. 13.
The act, designed to stimulate the economy, will provide one-time payments of as much as $600 per person and $1,200 per couple to most Americans.
When rebates will be sent?
The IRS says that people who file their tax returns by April 15 will begin to receive them in May. We expect the IRS to give a more detailed timetable later. Check back here later. We will update this page as new information is available.
Filing your Federal Tax Return for FREE
There are two ways you can accomplish this. Use the FREE TURBO TAX Edition or contact me and I will prepare it for you as a public service.
Prepare and file a return using the Free Edition of TurboTax. There is no charge for Free Edition, which is intended for filers with simple returns. However, if you are filing just to get a rebate, you must follow certain, specific instructions that tell the IRS to accept your return. You can e-file, or you can print and mail the return to the IRS. For detailed instructions, click here.

If you are not comfortable with using the FREE Turbo Tax internet software, then you can contact me by phone. I will discuss it with you and guide you in the Federal tax return preparation and will fill out the form for you. I will then email you with you Federal tax return via a PDF file. You can then print it out, sign it, and mail in the return. If you mail in a return, make sure you put "Stimulus Refund" on the very top of the 1040A tax return.
I am doing tax returns for those who normally would not have to file as a public service for the elderly. If you normally do not have taxable income, I will file or help you file the 2007 Federal 1040A Tax Return in order for you to qualify for the Stimulus Refund. I will do this for no charge.
You and/or your spouse (if married) need to have no taxable income over the normal taxable threshold. This will be no income or only social security (or railroad retirement) income.
If you have taxable income, I will still be glad to prepare your return at a nominal fee.
You can contact me (Professor Patrick Moriarty) at 636-462-7081 during normal central time hours (8:00 AM to 8:00PM).
Question: How much income did I need to have in 2007 to qualify?
You had to have at least $3,000 income from your work, your Social Security, railroad retirement or veterans’ benefits, or a combination of these.
If you are single and had at least that much in income, you are eligible for a rebate of at least $300. If and your spouse together had at least $3,000 income, you would be eligible for a rebate of at least $600. And if you had children under age 17 who qualified, you would get $300 for each one.
The most you can receive is $600 for yourself, an additional $600 for your spouce (if married), and an additional $300 for each qualified child under age 17.
